PVC Tarpaulin
PVC oilcloth is essentially a PVC coated fabric. Its core structure usually consists of two parts:
1. Base fabric layer:
Material: The most commonly used is high-strength polyester fiber, followed by nylon (nylon), and sometimes glass fiber or cotton (less common due to mold growth) is also used.
Function: Provides mechanical strength, tear resistance, tensile strength, and dimensional stability. It is the skeleton of the entire material, determining the load-bearing capacity and tensile performance of the oilcloth. The base fabric is usually woven into a plain or Oxford fabric structure.
2. PVC coating:
Main component: Polyvinyl chloride resin. This is the key raw material for the naming of PVC oilcloth, providing the main physical and chemical performance basis.
(1)Plasticizer: This is a very important component in PVC formulations. Commonly used ones include phthalates (such as DOP, DINP, DOTP), epoxides, polyesters, etc. Plasticizers make the originally hard PVC resin soft and tough, endowing the coating with good flexibility and processability. The type and dosage of plasticizers directly affect the softness, hardness, low-temperature performance, and durability (migration, volatilization loss) of oilcloth.
(2)Stabilizers: prevent PVC from degrading, discoloring (yellowing, blackening), and deteriorating performance due to heat and light (especially ultraviolet) during processing and use. Commonly used stabilizers include calcium zinc stabilizers, barium zinc stabilizers, organotin stabilizers, etc. UV stabilizers are key to ensuring outdoor weather resistance.
(3)Color powder/pigment: Provides various colors of oilcloth.
(4)Fillers, such as calcium carbonate, are used to reduce costs and adjust hand feel, but excessive addition can affect performance.
(5)Flame retardant: added according to demand, endowing the oilcloth with flame retardant or flame-retardant properties.
(6)Other additives: such as lubricants (to improve processability), mold inhibitors (to prevent microbial growth), anti-static agents, etc.
Production process description: Usually, PVC resin, plasticizers, stabilizers, pigments, etc. are mixed and plasticized into a paste or molten state, and then uniformly coated on one or both sides of the base fabric through rolling or scraping processes, and then made through oven plasticization, cooling, embossing (optional), winding and other processes.

3.Excellent weather resistance: The UV stabilizer and high-efficiency heat stabilizer added to the formula make it resistant to the erosion of sunlight, ultraviolet rays, rainwater, wind, snow, and ozone, and not easily aged, brittle, or faded (high-quality product), suitable for long-term outdoor use.
4.Good chemical stability: resistant to corrosion from acid, alkali, salt, and various chemical substances (specific resistance depends on the formula), easy to clean.
5.Flame retardancy (optional): By adding flame retardants, different levels of flame retardancy standards (such as B1, EN 13501-1, NFPA 701, etc.) can be achieved to meet the fire safety requirements of specific locations.
6.Flexibility and ease of processing: By adjusting plasticizers, products with different softness, hardness, and flexibility can be obtained. Easy to cut, sew, heat seal or high-frequency weld, making it convenient to produce products in various shapes.
7.Airtightness: The dense PVC coating gives it good airtightness, making it suitable for making inflatable products such as inflatable boats and airbags.
8.Mold and bacteria prevention: PVC itself is not easy to breed mold, and the effect is better after adding mold inhibitors.
9.Economy: Compared to other high-performance coated fabrics such as PTFE and silicone, PVC oilcloth has a higher cost-effectiveness.
10.Rich colors: Various colors can be adjusted according to needs.
